Features and Benefits

ecobrick provides the ideal future investment for both your new home and our fragile environment.

Energy Efficient

ecobrick saves energy. The air bubbles trapped in ecobrick give it thermal insulation properties many times better than conventional concrete or brick. Buildings constructed with ecobrick will be cooler in summer and warmer in winter. As a result the building's energy use will be lower, and the need for extra insulation can be avoided in most cases.

Excellent Acoustic Barrier

ecobrick possess an excellent sound reduction capacity and will meet Building Code requirements. This property results from the unique aerated structure which consists of tiny non-interconnected air cells giving a very low air porosity. Hence the sound resistance achieved is better than anticipated for a material with low mass.

Icon

Low Density

The cellular structure of ecobrick results in a density only one fifth that of conventional bricks. This can mean faster construction times with less worker fatigue while still maintaining finished wall strength. The net weight of a 300x162x90mm ecobrick is 2.5kg.

Fire Resistant

ecobrick is inorganic and totally incombustible, providing approximately twice the protection of normal concrete. In fact ecobrick is particularly suited for fire rated applications such as ventilation shafts, lift walls, fire walls and for use with structural steel.

Icon

Strong

ecobrick has a high strength to weight ratio, with a characteristic strength of >3.5 MPa. This permits ecobrick structures to be designed in accordance with the AS3700 1998 Masonry Code.

Icon

Easily Worked

ecobrick can be cut, drilled and nailed by using normal hand tools: power tools can be used for rapid routing for the embedment of services. ecobrick can be cut to virtually any shape or angle making it extremely flexible.

Icon

Recyclable

During the production process and waste ecobrick material is collected and forms between 10 - 12% of a new ecobrick. Old ecobricks can be crushed and utilised in the same way.

Icon

Efficient Construction Practice

The manufacturing process ensures consistent dimensions and ensures a finished weight of 2.5kg for each 300x162x90mm ecobrick. Consistent dimensions mean that internal walls are constructed straighter and surface finishes like plasterboard or hardwall look better.

Icon

Environmentally Friendly

ecobrick does not contain any toxic substances. Plus the manufacture of ecobrick does not require huge quantities of fossil fuels to fire kilns, nor does it generate large quantities of waste and pollution. In fact wherever ecobrick is used energy is actually saved!
